Projects for the celebrations

The Centre for Contemporary and Digital History of the University of Luxembourg, in collaboration with the Centre for East Belgian History, has created a digital exhibition on the centenary of East Belgium. Click here to get directly to the exhibition.

BRF (German-language radio station in Belgium) reviewed the last 75 years of East Belgium in an interesting series of programmes in conjunction with its own anniversary. 3/4 of a century: The BRF turns 75

Since 15 January 2020. Inspired by the BHF programme '50 Years of History of the Eastern Cantons', historians Christoph Brüll and Andreas Fickers presented a continuation of the programme series with '2x50 Years of East Belgium'.

East Belgium has turned 100. Time for some presents!

Under the title 'Long live the Fatherland! What a Drama', defining moments in East Belgian history were presented as a multimedia stage play.

The date was postponed due to Covid. Every two years, the ABHC/BVNG organises its Day of Contemporary History at different locations. In 2022 it took place in Eupen.

Date: 1-2 November 2019. The Historical Belgium Research Association held its annual conference in Eupen.

The Centre for East Belgian History and the Federal Agency for Civic Education organised a youth congress on '100 years after Versailles' in Eupen.

Date: 19 February 2019. The network meeting of the Cultural Heritage Archive focused on the centenary of the region's affiliation with Belgium.

Date: 19 February 2019. The Centre for East Belgian History presented its online portal on the history of East Belgium.

30 March 2019. Collection Day was dedicated to the centenary of being part of Belgium.

September 2020. The comic authors Christophe Sommer and René Heinen take us back to the year 1920 with a gripping story.
