A question of perspective?

Eupen 1940. Robert Ley, head of the German Labour Front (DAF), visits the district town. 30 pictures were published on this occasion by the photo studio Lander. They reveal how the photographer played with perspective. One picture in particular stands out. It shows a factory hall during a meeting.

The photographer deliberately chose a camera angle with a distant vanishing point to give an impression of distance. The audience appears larger than it actually is. The photo could thus be used for propaganda purposes.

Most of those present are looking attentively in one direction. That is probably where Robert Ley is, giving a speech. The DAF flag (with the cogwheel) makes it clear that this is a highly official National Socialist event.
