Film and radio – the audiovisual space in-between
The 20th century is often described by historians as the century of mass media. The press, radio, cinema, and television shaped people’s everyday lives. Moving images and sounds became the clocks of daily life. Since then, news, entertainment programmes, reports, feature films, and commentaries have largely determined what we learn about the world. Nevertheless, a critical view is often lacking. Images and sounds rush past us too quickly.
East Belgium was also a space shaped by the media in the last century. Numerous newspapers, radio stations, cinemas, and television channels produced reports, programmes or films in the region. These also flowed into the ‘media space In-Between space’ of East Belgium. This section of the portal takes a closer look at some audiovisual sources.
